Answers about TripLife on iPhone and Apple Watch

How TripLife stores travel documents on-device and in iCloud, what Pro includes, iOS 17 requirements, footprints/GPX, and Family Sharing—short answers.

Getting Started

What can I do with TripLife?

TripLife helps you plan upcoming trips, manage them while you travel, and look back on them later. You can create trips, organize travel details, track flights and expenses, revisit memories on maps, see lifetime travel progress, and use Apple ecosystem features like widgets, Live Activities, and Apple Watch support. Some experiences are available to everyone, while others depend on Pro, device support, permissions, or trip status.

How do I create a trip?

Start from Home and create a trip with one or more destinations. You can set travel dates or trip length, then customize details like trip name, type, cover, budget, and theme.

Can I import past trips?

Yes. TripLife can import past trips from your Photos library. You can choose residences, set a date range, review grouped results, and edit the imported trip before saving. Importing past trips is also one of the fastest ways to make Memory more useful.

Where should I start?

Most people start in one of two ways: create an upcoming trip, or import past trips from photos. If you already have travel history, importing first usually gives you a richer Memory and lifetime view right away.

Do I need to sign in?

Not for everything. You can explore and use parts of TripLife without signing in, but account-based experiences such as Profile, Referral, and some continuity or sync-related flows work best when you are signed in.

Planning and Trip Setup

What can I add to a trip?

You can add destinations, itinerary items, custom activities, flights, expenses, budgets, route-related content, travel documents, and trip settings such as cover and theme.

Can I add travel documents to a trip?

Yes. You can save important travel documents inside a trip, such as tickets, IDs, visas, receipts, screenshots, QR codes, barcodes, PDFs, and other files you may need while traveling.

Where are Travel Documents stored?

Travel Documents are stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, can sync across your iCloud devices. They are not uploaded to TripLife servers.

Can I add flights?

Yes. Flights can be part of your trip planning and later contribute to your broader travel history.

Can I use Budget & Expenses?

Yes. TripLife supports budget and expense-related planning as part of trip setup and management.

What can I change in Trip Settings?

Trip Settings let you manage trip-level details such as presentation, preferences, and feature behavior. Depending on the trip and feature, settings can affect weather, recording, display style, and other trip-specific experiences.

Can I share trip content?

TripLife supports sharing across selected surfaces, but sharing content is not the same as inviting someone to collaborate on a trip. A shared view is typically meant for viewing, not automatic editing access.

Can I invite other travelers to a trip?

Trip collaboration and traveler invitations are separate from simple sharing. If TripLife asks you to upgrade during this flow, it usually means invitations or collaboration are part of a Pro-gated capability.

During the Trip

Does TripLife show trip weather?

Yes. TripLife can show weather for your trip, but the weather source depends on the trip context. For an ongoing trip, TripLife may use your current location. For an upcoming trip, it may use one of your destinations instead.

Why don’t I see weather on Home?

Weather on Home depends on your trip context and settings. If weather is turned off, if there is no valid current weather source, or if the current trip context does not support it, the Home weather entry may not appear.

Why does TripLife sometimes show current-location weather and sometimes destination weather?

TripLife chooses the weather source based on trip status. Ongoing trips can use your current location, while future trips usually rely on destination information. This keeps the weather more relevant to where you are in the journey.

Why can I see weather but not open the full weather experience?

A weather entry can appear before the full weather experience is fully available to your current access level. If TripLife prompts you to upgrade, it usually means the detailed weather experience is part of a Pro-gated feature set.

Does TripLife support notifications?

Yes. Notification-related experiences are available in the app, and you can manage them in Settings.

Can TripLife sync with my calendar?

TripLife supports calendar-related flows in supported contexts. Availability depends on the surface you are using and the permissions granted on your device.

Can TripLife record my route?

Yes. TripLife can record route history for trips, but Trip Recording only works when the required trip, permission, and access conditions are in place.

What does Trip Recording require?

Trip Recording usually depends on several things working together: a trip that is currently in progress, the right location permission and accuracy, Trip Recording being enabled, and Pro access where required. If one of those conditions is missing, recording may not start or may stay incomplete.

Why didn’t Trip Recording start?

Trip Recording does not automatically begin in every situation. The trip usually needs to be active, the required location access must be available, recording must be enabled, and your current access level must support it. If any of those are missing, TripLife may not start recording.

Why does my recorded route look incomplete?

TripLife does not keep every possible location point. Low-quality points, weak accuracy, and periods without meaningful movement may be filtered out. That means the route you see is a cleaner travel record, not necessarily a second-by-second path.

Can I turn Trip Recording off for one trip only?

Yes. TripLife supports trip-level recording preferences, so you can keep recording available in general while turning it off for a specific trip.

Can I export my recorded route?

Yes, TripLife can support route export for recorded travel history. Availability depends on whether enough valid route data was captured for that trip.

Can I use Routes and Directions?

Yes. TripLife includes route and direction-related surfaces as part of trip planning and in-trip use.

Memory and Past Travel

What is Memory?

Memory turns your past travel history into a visual, map-based view. It helps you revisit journeys, places, photos, and travel patterns over time.

What can I see in Memory?

Depending on your trips and saved data, Memory can show past trips on a map, destination-based views, trip-related photos, recorded routes, and flight-based lifetime views. It becomes much more useful once you have imported or completed trips.

Why is Memory empty even though I’ve used TripLife?

Memory depends on past-trip data. If you have not completed or imported trips yet, Memory may stay mostly empty. Importing past trips from your photo library is often the fastest way to make Memory useful.

What’s the difference between Trip view and Flight view in Memory?

Trip view focuses on places, routes, and trip-based travel history. Flight view focuses on lifetime flight history, route patterns, and airport-based summaries. They answer different kinds of travel questions.

Can I review past trips on a map?

Yes. Reviewing past trips on a map is one of the core Memory experiences.

Can I see flight history?

Yes. TripLife can surface flight history as part of your broader travel history. In Memory, flights are presented more like a lifetime travel layer than only as single-trip items.

Can I share a Memory snapshot?

Yes. TripLife can create a cleaner shareable Memory view for sharing. Shared snapshots are designed as visual summaries, not editable trip records.

Profile, Lifetime Travel, and Hotel Journey

What is in Profile?

Profile brings together your personal travel identity in TripLife, including account-based information, travel progress, and entry points into broader user and settings experiences.

What are Lifetime and Annual Milestones?

These views help you see your travel history over time. They can highlight overall progress as well as year-by-year movement and milestone-style changes.

What is Hotel Journey?

Hotel Journey is TripLife’s branded-stay experience inside your travel history. It helps you track hotel stays, brands, and group progress across your trips.

What counts toward Hotel Journey?

Hotel Journey works best with stay-type trip items such as hotels, resorts, and apartments. When a stay is linked to a recognized hotel group or brand, it can contribute more fully to Hotel Journey progress.

Why isn’t a stay showing up in Hotel Journey?

A stay may not count if it was not saved as an accommodation-type item, was not linked to a recognized hotel group or brand, or does not match the structure Hotel Journey uses for progress. Hotel Journey is designed as structured stay history, not every lodging mention in a trip.

Can I update a hotel brand later?

Yes. Hotel-related details can be refined later in supported editing flows, which helps improve Hotel Journey accuracy after the trip is created.

Does Hotel Journey require Pro?

Some Hotel Journey experiences are tied to Pro. In some cases, existing hotel-related data may still be visible, while deeper brand-level features, selection flows, or full progression experiences require Pro.

Travel Advice and AI

What is Travel Advice?

Travel Advice gives you destination-aware trip tips for your current travel context. It is built to surface useful ideas, reminders, and local guidance rather than act like a full chat assistant.

Is it a chatbot?

Not in the usual sense. Travel Advice is built more like a structured tip experience than an open-ended conversation interface.

Why don’t I see Travel Advice today?

Travel Advice depends on your trip context, feature settings, and the AI path available to your device or account. If the feature is off, the trip context is not suitable, or the current tip state has already been resolved for today, you may not see a fresh suggestion right away.

What’s the difference between Apple Intelligence and cloud AI in TripLife?

Apple Intelligence is designed as an on-device path on supported systems. Cloud AI is a separate advanced generation path and may require Pro. The experience can differ depending on availability, access, and the feature you are using.

Which AI models does TripLife support?

TripLife supports both on-device and cloud-based AI paths, depending on your device and feature setup. On supported systems, some Travel Advice can run through Apple Intelligence, while more advanced cloud AI experiences may require TripLife Pro.

Does AI require Pro?

Not all AI-powered experiences work the same way. Some on-device experiences may be available without the same Pro requirement as advanced cloud AI models. If TripLife asks you to upgrade, it usually means you are entering a Pro-gated advanced AI flow.

Are Travel Advice tips private?

TripLife explains privacy and reliability expectations when enabling AI-based advice. Depending on the AI path, generation may happen on-device or through a cloud-based service, and the app should make the relevant context visible when that distinction matters.

Can I remove tips or save them for later?

Yes. You can dismiss tips you do not want to keep seeing and save useful ones for later review.

Apple Ecosystem

What can I do on Apple Watch?

TripLife on Apple Watch is a companion experience for viewing trip information in a more glanceable format. Availability depends on the trip data already prepared and handed off from iPhone.

Why isn’t my Apple Watch showing the latest trip data yet?

Watch data depends on handoff from iPhone to Apple Watch. If your trip changed recently, the watch may need a little time to receive the latest payload.

Does Apple Watch require Pro?

Some Apple Watch-related TripLife experiences are tied to Pro.

Does TripLife support Home Screen widgets?

Yes. TripLife supports Home Screen widgets in supported environments.

Does TripLife support Live Activities?

Yes. TripLife supports Live Activities for selected real-time surfaces when the device and feature path support them.

What can widgets and Live Activities show outside the app?

TripLife supports selected outside-the-app surfaces such as Home Screen widgets, Live Activities, and quick actions. What appears there depends on the feature, your device support, and the current trip context.

Does TripLife support quick actions outside the app?

Yes. TripLife supports selected quick-action experiences outside the main app flow in supported environments.

TripLife Pro, Trials, and Referral

What does TripLife Pro unlock?

TripLife Pro unlocks more of the app across several areas, including richer trip detail, trip recording, advanced weather access, advanced AI models, hotel-brand and Hotel Journey features, Apple Watch-related experiences, and invitation or collaboration-related capabilities.

Why can I see a feature but still be asked to upgrade?

Some TripLife features are discoverable before they are fully unlocked. This helps you understand what the feature does, while Pro controls deeper access, richer detail, or full interaction.

Which features still work without Pro?

TripLife is not all-or-nothing. Many planning and review experiences still work without Pro, while more advanced travel intelligence, recording, weather depth, hotel-brand features, and some premium surfaces may require Pro.

How is Pro access decided?

Pro access depends on your current eligibility state, which may come from a paid plan, trial access, or referral-based access where supported.

Does TripLife support trials and referral rewards?

Yes. TripLife can support both trial-style access and referral-based Pro rewards. These are not the same as a paid subscription, even if they unlock overlapping experiences.

What’s the difference between Pro, a trial, and referral access?

Paid Pro, temporary trial access, and referral-based access are different paths to eligibility. They may unlock overlapping experiences, but they are not the same subscription state.

What is Referral?

Referral is TripLife’s invite-and-reward style experience. Depending on your eligibility and state, it can be used to activate or extend access-related benefits.

What plans does TripLife Pro offer?

TripLife Pro supports multiple plan options. The exact plans shown to you may vary by the available purchase surface.

Privacy, Permissions, and Data

Which permissions can TripLife request?

Depending on the feature, TripLife may request permissions such as location, notifications, photos, calendar-related access, and other Apple ecosystem permissions needed for specific travel experiences.

Why does TripLife need location access?

Location access can help power current-trip weather, trip recording, and other travel-context experiences. The exact reason depends on the feature you are using.

Does TripLife use iCloud?

Some TripLife experiences use Apple ecosystem services such as iCloud-based continuity or storage-related flows. This depends on the feature. Not every part of the app works the same way.

Is my data only stored locally?

Not always. Some TripLife data stays local, while some features may rely on account-based, cloud-based, or Apple ecosystem-backed storage and continuity flows depending on the experience.

Can I manage or delete my data?

Yes. TripLife includes settings and data-management surfaces for managing or deleting different parts of your information, including selected trip, recording, imported, flight, or account-related data where supported.

Where can I find help and legal pages?

You can find help, feedback, FAQ, and legal pages such as Privacy Policy and Terms of Service inside the app’s settings and support-related surfaces.
